Can Spectrum's Spray Oils be used at any heat? Can Spectrum's Spray Oils be used at any heat? Just like our bottled oils, the spray oils are best when used below their ‘smoke point', the temperature at which the oil begins to smoke. At this point the oil releases unhealthy free radicals. Look on the side of the can for the recommended heat for the spray oil that you are using. ![]() What type of propellant does Spectrum use for their Spray Oils? Spectrum uses a hydrocarbon blend of propane and isobutane. These naturally occurring gases are FDA approved, listed in the Code of Federal Regulations as GRAS (generally recognized as safe), and have an ozone depleting potential of zero. ![]() What are Spectrum Naturals Conventional Spray Oils? Spectrum Naturals Spray Oils are expeller pressed oils in convenient aerosol spray cans. Four conventional 6-oz. varieties are available: High Heat Canola, Canola with Butter Flavor, Grapeseed and Olive. High Heat Canola is also available in a larger 16-oz. size. ![]() What are Spectrum Naturals Organic Spray Oils? Spectrum Naturals Organic Spray Oils are the same high quality organic oils found in our bottled organic offerings, now in a convenient aerosol spray format. Our Organic Expeller Pressed Sunflower Oil, and our Organic First Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil, are the first organic offerings available in the spray can market. These two new organic items join our highly successful line of conventional spray oils. ![]() What are the advantages of cooking with Spectrum Spray Oils? They're perfect partners for grilling, frying or baking. A quick spray or two allows the fresh flavors of your ingredients to shine through and prevents them from sticking. And Spray Oils are a great way to cut calories, too. Spectrum's Spray Oils are made from our own healthy oils that have been pressed without the use of hexane or other harmful petrochemicals. The canola oils are expeller pressed, the olive oils are cold pressed, and the grapeseed oil is alcohol extracted. No chlorofluorocarbons are used in the aerosol delivery system. ![]() Why should I choose Spectrum Organic Spray Oils? They're perfect partners for grilling, frying or baking. A quick spray or two allows the fresh flavors of your ingredients to shine through and prevents them from sticking. Spray Oils are often a great way to cut calories as well, as less oil is generally used to coat a cooking surface. Spectrum's Spray Oils are made from our own healthy oils that have been pressed without the use of hexane or other harmful petrochemicals. The Organic Sunflower Oil is expeller pressed, while our organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is first cold pressed. The propellant is compressed gas, creating no hydrocarbons. ![]() Why does Spectrum use expeller pressing for the Organic Sunflower and Canola Oils? Rather than being subjected to hexane extraction, our Organic Sunflower and Canola Oils are expeller pressed. The yield using expeller pressing is lower than more efficient petrochemical extraction, but the process is much kinder to the environment. Although hexane is removed from oil (and therefore disclosure on labels of its use is not required), expeller pressing eliminates the concern some people have about potential chemical residue. ![]() How should I store the Spray Oils? Spectrum's Spray Oils are shelf stable products. Look for them in the cooking oil section. Properly stored, they have a two year shelf life. ![]() Why are your organic Spray oils listed as having only 5oz while your non-organic offerings list 6oz? While the cans used for our organic and non-organic spray oils are identical in size, the organic propellant that is required takes up a greater amount of the interior volume, displacing 1oz worth of oil. ![]() | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
